Personal Statement
I welcome calls from you so you can get a better sense of my personality and professional style. That way, too, you can receive the most current information on workshops and special interest groups such as Navigating the Therapy Maze, a workshop intended to empower you to make informed choices about your counseling options or Vicarious Trauma, a support group for the partners of sexual abuse survivors.
I work with many people who are new to counseling as well as ones who are discouraged after repeated and unsuccessful attempts in counseling. Everyone comes with their own apprehensions regarding talking to a complete stranger about personal matters. Some find it unthinkable, others worry they will not be able to trust again. I am sensitive to how uncomfortable this can feel and therefore make every attempt to have your experience be as painless as possible. My office feels like a living room with comfortable places for you to sit. As you describe your concerns I will listen empathically. Sometimes people prefer me to ask questions while others like to talk without interruption. I respect these differences and respond accordingly. Once I have a better understanding of you and your goals in seeking counseling we will explore together the best options available for your specific concerns. Then you will decide whether I am the right therapist for you.
In over 30 years I have guided countless individuals and couples through life's transitions. I have helped others overcome long-standing emotional patterns which can prevent one from living life to its fullest.
Here are a few ways of how I have helped others successfully resolve some of life's challenges:
* People unable to make choices about work and career because of lack of direction, fear of taking risks and making changes can gain inspiration and the courage to move forward.
* Teens to sixty-somethings, overwhelmed, puzzled, lacking confidence or feeling emotionally empty, develop internal resources to overcome obstacles, make decisions, and find purposeful and fullfilling lives.
* Men and women facing the additional challenges in life related to sexual identity discover a genuine sense of self-acceptance.
* Couples who are stuck, disconnected, or constantly bickering can regain that loving feeling.
* People second-guessing their engagement or relationship learn ways to listen to their inner voice before taking the next step such as marriage or long-term commitment.
* Individuals who experience intolerable stress at home, work, or school following an unexpected roadblock develop helpful ways to cope.
I am genuinely committed to providing an individualized approach to therapy which maximizes your strengths, addresses your struggles and goals while offering effective and authentic solutions.
The telephone is the quickest way to get a response from me. And I do answer personally whenever possible. If, however, I am helping someone else when you phone kindly leave a detailed message on my confidential voice mail and I will return your call confidentiality and as soon as possible. Some people like to ask questions yet others just want to make an appointment to talk in person. You decide. Congratulations for having the courage to take control of your life. Best wishes for meeting your aspirations.
