Personal Statement

Thank you for taking the time to learn about me and my practice. In order to communicate a "personal statement," I believe it is important to learn about me as a person. I have lived in Chicago nearly my entire life, having emigrated to the United States from Poland when I was 6 years old. While an undergraduate student at Loyola University, I became interested in Clinical Psychology, and sought out Research Projects with the School of Counseling Education. These projects reinforced my interest in therapy. I decided to continue my education in Psychology, pursuing a Masters in Clinical Psychology at the Illinois School of Professional Psychology. While a student at ISPP, I gravitated to the "Client" or "Person-centered" clinical approach developed by the late Carl Rogers. This theoretical orientation sets the groundwork for an effective therapeutic relationship, where interpersonal issues can be resolved and personal growth can continue along its natural course. Rogerian theory is a therapeutic philosophy based on empathy, genuineness, and unconditional positive regard. I believe that everyone has the potential to find resolution to their personal and inter-personal issues, and to improve their overall mental health. My personal style is to facilitate that natural process in the therapy setting.
