Personal Statement

I want to help you make your life better and your joy more abundant. I welcome your calls and offer a free phone consultation to ensure that you're comfortable before you step into our offices. In general, I see a great many strengths in people that can be tapped in therapy, abilities waiting to be released from such traps as hopelessness and depression. I use a variety of psychotherapeutic techniques, tailored for each individual, but in each case I try to practice with grace and open-heartedness.

I take an eclectic approach to psychotherapy and assessment, drawing on the wisdom of several different schools of thought and practice. My own therapy experience, which truly changed my life, was based in self psychology and forms the core of my understanding of how people develop and grow in relationships. My training expanded my psychological thinking into the worlds of family, cognitive-behavioral, feminist, and spiritually-based therapies. This has led me to a practice that explores both past and current connections, attends to the deep emotional experiences of our bodies, and honors the diverse spiritual and religious beliefs that individuals bring with them. My own Christian faith supports me and helps me understand how spiritual practice can be affirming and meaningful to others.

I feel especially drawn to work with older adults and issues of aging and over time have developed a specialty in this area. By the time people seek out my care, they often have experienced deep pain, loneliness, and frustration. They, like all of us, want to feel better, more connected to loved ones and to life itself. So this want, this yearning, guides much of our work together.

Because the Willow Wellness Center specializes in care for adults 50 and older, many of you may be seeking help for struggling parents or grandparents, loved ones whose decline pains you greatly. They may not believe that they need help; they may not even know that you're looking around for answers. We can't promise to provide the "cure" for your loved one, but we can promise to listen to your concerns with compassion and to develop a treatment plan which draws on our experience with hundreds of older adults and their families.
