Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD)

Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) involves an excessive concern about an imagined or exaggerated physical flaw. People with BDD are not just unhappy with how they look, but have such a distorted view of themselves or a body part that they think others will be disgusted by their appearance. As a result, they may become so obsessed with their appearance that work and relationships suffer.

BDD is common in individuals with eating disorders who worry about weight or body shape, but people with the disorder may also focus on their facial or physical features, hair or body odor. Because of the obsessive and compulsive tendencies which often accompany it (excessive grooming, constantly checking the mirror) BDD has also been linked to obsessive-compulsive spectrum disorders.
