Psychoanalyst
Psychoanalyst is a license in New York for professionals who provide
psychoanalysis services for clients. Requirements include a Master's or higher-level degree in any field registered by the New York State Education Department Office of the Professions. Licensed Psychoanalysts must also complete 1,500 hours of supervised work experience and pass a licensure exam. The license is similar to the
Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) license issued in other states.
In addition, many mental health professionals who are licensed as
psychologists,
social workers, and
psychiatrists get specific training in psychoanalysis and then refer to themselves as psychoanalysts, though not as licensed psychoanalysts.
