Trichotillomania (TTM)

Trichotillomania is an impulse-control disorder which causes people to feel an irresistable urge to pull out the hair on their scalp, eyebrows and other parts of the body, resulting in noticible hair loss. Although symptoms often first appear in early adolescence, trichotillomania may affect people of all ages and seems to worsen under stress. Not surprisingly, the disturbance often results in social distress and may interfere with work.

Treatments for trichotillomania include cognitive-behavioral therapy, Habit Reversal Training, medication and alternative therapies.
