EMDR certified, she specializes in work with survivors of childhood trauma. Linda Harper has a masters degree in clinical psychology and is licensed as an LCPC in Illinois. This education and ongoing training qualify her to provide up to date outpatient treatment for a wide range of disorders such as those presenting with symptoms of anxiety and depression.

After receiving her masters degree, she obtained two years of additional training in marital and family therapy at the Family Institute of Chicago affiliated with Northwestern University. This level of education exceeds that of many providers of this service and culminated in her additional license as a marital and family therapist.

Her second area of specialization is in working with survivors of recent and childhood trauma. Her substantial training and experience in this area over 10 years includes workshops, classes, study groups and supervision. In 2002, she obtained her certification as an EMDR clinician. I think of myself as providing committed, compassionate care. Clients have indicated that I seem to have a genuine interest in their well-being rather than appearing distant or disinterested. Noting that I will meet at the school with teachers or counselors of a troubled adolescent to best coordinate care or reach out to out of town relatives of an isolated elderly individual to conduct a weekend family session to build a needed support system.

Clients have described me as more interactive in my style of intervention. Although firmly committed to a client making their own decision regarding difficult life choices or coming to their own resolution of past or present painful experiences; I also believe that feedback and direction are important. Sitting in therapy for an hour with only several words at the end or for years with little change is not acceptable to me.

Instead, I provide clients with information and skills to help them manage feelings and stress, and to communicate more effectively with family members and partners. I also provide an ongoing relationship in which clients can experience themselves with another to learn about repeated, frustrating and disappointing patterns in their relationships. We work together to understand and resolve the early experiences that may have contributed to these patterns.

Depending on the needs of the client, treatment may last from 12 weeks to several years. I do have several psychiatrists with whom I work to provide clients with medication, as needed. In most instances I am comfortable working with clients who do not wish to take medication or prefer herbal alternatives. I do believe medication is sometimes an important adjunct to therapy.
