Personal Statement

My work as a therapist emphasizes finding the most appropriate treatment approach to best suit the client and the problem that brings the client in for help. For some problems, a more structured, directive approach may be best, whereas in other situations an open-ended, non-directive strategy might most effectively address the client's concerns. Working collaboratively with clients to develop a treatment strategy that best meets their needs is an important part of my initial therapy sessions. Indeed, a collaborative working relationship is very important throughout therapy. I try to foster a professional, safe environment in which people can feel at ease talking about their deepest concerns. I especially welcome feedback about the therapy experience at all stages, so changes can be made to ensure that clients get the most benefit from their sessions. I believe that a successful therapy is one in which the client feels respected and understood while we work together to address his or her problems. While symptom relief is a key goal of therapy, I believe the enhancement of a client's quality of life is a very important focus of the work. It's not just about curing symptoms, but creating a life worth living.
