Article: Online Games and Addiction

Online role-playing games such as EverQuest and World of Warcraft which allow users to take part in a continuing fantasy drama with thousands of players from all over the world are now being called the cause of failing marriages, lost jobs and even suicide. Although manufacturers claim the games are not addictive, some players display symptoms similar to alcohol or drug addiction including increased tolerance and suffering relationships. Meanwhile many psychiatric professionals and even addiction clinics are opening their doors to a new class of Internet addict: the gamer.
