Patients who suffer from both Attention Hyperactivity Deficit Disorder (ADHD) and anxiety disorders may have success when prescriped with atomoxetine (marketed as Strattera), according to a presentation at 53rd annual meeting of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP).
Researchers studied 132 individuals with both ADHD and a comorbid anxiety disorder. Participants received either a placebo pill or a variable dosage of amoxetine. Results showed that those who took the drug showed significant improvements in anxiety and ADHD symptoms compared to participants receiving the placebo.
Approximately 25 to 50 percent of individuals with ADHD also suffer from anxiety disorders.
