Article: As ADD Kids Grow Up, Many Reject Medication

As the original Ritalin generation enters adulthood, many childhood sufferers of Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) are choosing to wean themselves off the medications of their youth.

Around 90 percent of children diagnosed with the disorder will discontinue medication by age 21, studies show. For many, doing so is a declaration of independence from both parents and the medication they have taken most their lives.

Experts charting these young adults now watch with curiosity and concern as they look to answer questions about the long-term affects of medication and the path of ADD over a lifetime.
