A patch form of Exelon, an experimental Alzheimer's drug has been recommended for approval by the European Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP). Exelon is a medication proven to be effective in treating mild to moderate forms of Alzheimer’s as well as elderly dementia. This approval follows quickly on the heels of the United States’ approval that was given on July 6, 2007.
In addition to increasing ease of administration, the patch also lessens gastrointestinal side effects including nausea and vomiting witnessed in clinical trials of the oral form of the drug.
