Army Suicide Rates Up Army suicide rates have risen to 99 soldiers for 2006, up from 87 in 2005. Of these, 30 were soldiers currently deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan. Mental health experts blame the stress of combat, long deployment and deteriorated relationships. At least as valuable than this so-called "beauty premium," researchers found, is being male, particularly in male-dominated professions.
