Why Women Start Life Happier, But End Up Less Content

Research to be published in the Journal of Happiness Studies shows that American women have the advantage over their male counterparts when it comes to happiness early in life and share similar goals when it comes to finances and family. However, by age 48, it's men who have the edge in overall happiness.
Why is this? According to researchers, men in their early twenties are generally single and at a financial low point. As time goes by, more men become married and their financial power grows. By age 34 more men are married by women and by age 41 men overtake women in financial satisfaction. Having more easily fulfilled their life aspirations, men's overall happiness exceeds women by age 48.
