Smile -- You'll Live Longer
|
Smiling can elevate your mood, make you more attractive to others and even boost your immune system. But can it also make you live longer? In a study published in the journal Psychological Science, Wayne State University researchers examined 230 photos of baseball players taken before 1950. Each photo was evaluated based on whether the player was not smiling, partially smiling or smiling big. Researchers then compared the smile data to the lifespans of players who had died. Smiling was found to be directly connected to lifespan. The average lifespan of the 63 players who had not smiled was just 72.9 years, compared with 75 years for the 64 partial smilers and 79.9 for the 23 big smilers.
