The International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies (ISTSS), founded in 1985, provides a forum for the sharing of research, clinical strategies, public policy concerns and theoretical formulations on trauma in the United States and around the world. ISTSS is dedicated to the discovery and dissemination of knowledge and to the stimulation of policy, program and service initiatives that seek to reduce traumatic stressors and their immediate and long-term consequences.

The National Center for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder carries out a broad range of multidisciplinary activities in research, education, and training. These initiatives support system-wide efforts in the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to understand, diagnose, and treat PTSD in veterans who have developed psychiatric symptoms following exposure to war-zone stress.
The PILOTS database is an electronic index to the worldwide literature on PTSD and other mental-health sequelae of exposure to traumatic events. It is available as a file on the Dartmouth College Library Online System. No account or password is required, and there is no charge for using the database.

Frequently, the developmental, emotional and psychological injuries caused by violence and trauma are underestimated. THE SIDRAN FOUNDATION is a national nonprofit charitable organization devoted to education, advocacy, and research to benefit people who are suffering from these injuries. Whether caused by family violence, crime, disasters, war, or any other overwhelming experience, with understanding, support, and appropriate treatment, the disabling effects of trauma can be overcome.

Gift From Within
Gift From Within, an international nonprofit organization, is dedicated to those who suffer post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), those at risk for PTSD, and those who care for traumatized individuals. Educational materials include videotapes, books and articles for both clinicians and those experiencing PTSD. An innovative feature developed by GFW is the Support Pal Network which networks survivors with one another for emotional support through email, regular mail, phone, poetry and an electronic art gallery. GFW has been gifted with clinicians, writers, and educators who contribute real life experiences through articles that appear on the website. Many of these experiences are used in developing Gift From Within's videotapes on trauma and victimization as well as the recovery process.
