Nikki Nelson is a 1972 graduate of the University of Michigan School of Social Work, where her studies focused on working with families, couples and groups in mental health and child development settings. Over the course of her career, she has developed particular expertise in working with depression and anxiety disorders, addictions and abuse, recovery from trauma and grief, and stress management. She is an experienced trainer and supervisor of other therapists. Ms. Nelson is a certified Substance Abuse Professional for the federal Department of Transportation. She also has significant experience as an employee assistance counselor and trainer, as well as workshop presenter.

Personal Statement
I am a strong, compassionate, experienced counselor who works to create a safe atmosphere in my counseling sessions. I have a sense of humor, and have come to believe that psychotherapy, while often dealing with sad, difficult and painful realities, need not be grim or joyless.
