Personal Statement

Being a parent in today’s culture is difficult enough, but even more difficult is fulfilling the role of a step-parent. And blending families is far more difficult than our pop media would have us believe. This is why I specialize in counseling for step-parents, blended families, single parents, and for those contemplating entering a blended family relationship.

I am myself in a blended family marriage. I have experienced the difficulties of divorce, single-parenting, re-marriage, and blending our families. I have been greatly helped with the issues that came from these life changes by counseling and group therapy, so I am now helping others find their way over the rough terrain of these same issues.

I am a Christian and my counseling methodology, although informed by scientifically sound theories of psychology, springs from my Christian worldview. My focus is on the entire family system, rather than just the couple or individual seeking counseling. I believe the family is the best possible place for the nurture and development of healthy, growing, and mature individuals. I am experienced with counseling/therapy with young children and adolescents as well as adults. I also have extensive experience with treating victims of physical and substance abuse.
