Personal Statement
I strive to understand, support and gently challenge my clients, while empowering them to recognize their innate strengths and potential. I offer a safe, nonjudgmental environment for self-discovery and healing. Taking a wellness-oriented approach to my work, I often integrate mindfulness techniques and encourage positive lifestyle changes. My office is located at Heartwood Center for body mind spirit, which is a group of independent practitioners dedicated to holistic healthcare. When necessary, I collaborate with nutritionists, psychiatrists or other professionals to ensure comprehensive treatment of the whole person. I am sensitive to individual differences, including spirituality/religious beliefs, sexual orientation, ethnicity and race.
Although I am trained as a generalist, I have a specialization in treating eating disorders and related difficulties in relationship to food and body image. I have experience in treating clinical eating disorders, such as anorexia, bulimia and binge eating disorder, as well as concerns such as having negative feelings about one's body shape, difficulty with weight loss or overeating. I believe that the real work of treating eating concerns comes in working with acceptance: helping my clients to understand and accept their emotions, accept and care for their bodies, and accept the person they are (rather than having unrealistic expectations). Depression and anxiety are two other areas in which I specialize.
I am skilled in short-term and longer-term psychotherapy. When seeking therapy, an individual may only need some support and coaching to get through a particular life situation. Other more long-standing difficulties or complex issues may require longer-term treatment. I believe the therapeutic relationship is instrumental to healing in therapy. Therefore, a good fit between therapist and client is crucial. I love my work and it is a privilege and pleasure to share in my clients' journeys towards growth, development and healing.
