Overview
Dr. Shannon received her Doctorate in Psychology from the University of Denver, Graduate School of Professional Psychology in 1992. With over 20 years of experience she has focused her training and practice toward working with people who desire to create positive change in their lives and relationships. There are many different emotional mine fields we experience in our lives that can create troublesome times. I specifically work with couples, adults, teenagers, and young adults who are experiencing something distressing in their lives. To negotiate these mine fields, it can be helpful to have a safe place to sort out our self and troublesome relationships. Hopefully, we discover paths that bring more joy and contentment to our lives and become a stronger person as a result.
Dr. Shannon offers specialized services for individuals and couples who are struggling with infertility issues. This includes helping you to negotiate through the’infertility crisis,’ making the tough decisions about whether to adopt, use a surrogate or try one more time or one more procedure (IVF, egg/sperm donor) to build a family. Sometimes the end decision is to have the family remain as it was before the infertility journey. Whatever the decision, Dr. Shannon has the experience and training to help you maneuver through the emotional process, feeling stronger individually and as a couple at the conclusion of the journey.

I have worked with individuals in psychotherapy for over 20 years. Over the years I have noticed that people, much like you, come to therapy because they are unhappy in their profession, an area that accounts for about one-third of our lives. As they become aware of their unhappiness and begin to identify what is making them unhappy, they can then develop and implement a plan for change. They begin to address issues in their professional life, advocate for themselves, make better professional life decisions and are able to set goals and implement their plan for success.
The result is that they become more satisfied with themselves. When this happens many people discover that they can better negotiate salary and benefits for themselves. They sometimes choose to develop their own business. They frequently find more satisfaction and joy in the rest of their lives: with their partner, family and friends.
Coaching can be rewarding for you in ways that you may not have imagined. Call for your free consultation at 303-860-9448. I would enjoy talking with you about your professional situation and help you find your way to more satisfaction in such an important arena of your life. An advantage of coaching is that you do not have to come to an office for every appointment as some coaching time can occur via phone.

Personal Statement
Over the past 20+ years of helping people find their way through emotional mazes I have developed specialty areas in my practice. These include: Working with adults, marital/couples, infertility issues, Business Coaching for men and women and teenagers and young adults and seniors. Please read the section(s) below that may apply to your needs. The Summary Section at the end will provide you with further information about my commitment to be of help to you.
1. COUPLE'S/MARITAL THERAPY for couples who are experiencing problems managing life transition issues such as change of career, death of parents, parenting conflicts, communication difficulties, intimacy difficulties, etc. They find themselves having the same fight and feeling like the chronic relational problems are creating a canyon with no bridge to walk toward each other. Struggling couples need a safe, comforting environment where they are free to express their frustrations and deepest thoughts without judgment. Give your relationship the opportunity to heal, grow and become stronger, call for a free consultation at 303-860-9448.
2. INFERTILITY ISSUES: I provide supportive therapeutic intervention for these exceptional families as they maneuver through their infertility journey. The couples and individuals that I work with experience a variety of challenges and crisis moments common to the infertility process. I also work with people who are deciding to build a family via alternative avenues such as adoption, surrogacy, donor egg and/or donor insemination or IVF. Issues such as infertility stretch couples and individuals to the point that they are unable to see a helpful emotional path for themselves or with one another. They may begin to have trouble identifying how they can hold on to and/or re-claim what they may have lost during the infertility process. I believe that individuals and couples can find their path(s)through the infertility maze and feel stronger individually and as a couple at its conclusion.
3. INDIVIDUAL ADULT PSYCHOTHERAPY: I work with adults dealing with a variety of life issues including: relationship struggles, sexual intimacy concerns, mood difficulties, conflicts with family members, and sexual identity issues. I also provide BUSINESS COACHING regarding, career choices, work conflicts and professional empowerment for adults.
4. TEENAGE & YOUNG ADULTHOOD time can be an exciting and wonderful time, filled with joy and exploration, but it can also be difficult. Expectations of ourselves, our parents, our peers and our society may collide and feel like we are divided in many directions. Issues such as "first loves," deciding to become sexual and making decisions about invitations to experiment with alcohol and/or other substances can create distress. Yet, we feel we must figure "things out on our own" and/or with our friends. The power to make our own decisions is exciting. However, we experience anxiety, fear and insecurity around making these decisions. We question our own beliefs and values. Feeling embarrassed and shameful about our struggles is common. Parents are faced with deciding how much to let our children "try their wings" and how much to be there when they trip or fall. Working with teenagers and their parents is a wondrous journey. As teenagers find their place and their parents successfully maneuver through this stage, both become stronger within themselves and with each other. CALL FOR YOUR FREE CONSULTATION AT 303-860-9448.
5. SENIORS are faced with many life changes from retiring, to the loss of a life partner, to failing health, and loss of friends. Becoming a senior embarks on another time in our lives where we are faced with redefining our lives. We look forward to and expect great relief as a result of retirement. Unfortunately, this time may bring new challenges instead. We may struggle with how/where to get meaning in our lives, redefining what brings joy to our life, or how to address changes in our couple relationship as a result of changes created by aging. With losses of friend(s) and/or partner we may find it necessary to rebuild our support system. We may be unsure about whether we want to develop another significant relationship and if so what the boundaries of that relationship would be that matches our life now. We may feel like we do not have a place where we can express our feelings about these changes and sort out what we want. Our resiliency for life and its challenges may feel diminished. If you are experiencing distress surrounding the challenges in your life, call 303-860-9448 for a free consultation.
SUMMARY: I want to help you be successful in maneuvering through whatever issue(s) may be causing disturbance for you so that you may have more contentment in life and with your relationships and career. I want you to be able to look toward your future with more joy. I believe that every individual has the ability to impact their lives, their careers and the lives of others in positive ways. However, sometimes what we are struggling with inhibits our ability to take the steps to do so. It is times like these that we need to reach out to people who can help us begin "to see" and "to understand" so that we can more successfully discover the steps we need to take to improve our lives. I would enjoy talking with you if you are experiencing distress in your life and/or relationship. CALL ME at 303-860-9448 for your FREE CONSULTATION.
Significant arenas of our lives such as family, couple relationship, career and friendships are the very areas of our lives where we may find ourselves struggling. This is because these are the primary areas of life where we spend most of our time and look toward having our emotional and intellectual needs met and where we make a commitment to reciprocate and meet the needs of others. These areas bring meaning to our lives and therefore create a special place where we frequently find ourselves struggling with issues that are quite painful yet we
do not fully understand the depth of our pain. Difficulties in any of these areas can create anxiety, feelings of loss, depression symptoms, loneliness, fear, feeling lost, insecure and inadequate. Each of us process these painful events and/crises in our lives differently as a result of many factors such as gender, family history, prior history as an adult, beliefs and values and/or goals we may have set for ourselves. In families, at work, in a couple relationship, as a teenager, as parents, as an adult or as a senior, we are faced with many different challenges, some of which we cannot predict, that can be overwhelming and distressing. I am interested and committed to helping you traverse the emotional maze you may find yourself in. Call me at 303-860-9448 for a free consultation.
