Personal Statement

Hi, I wanted to tell you a little about myself and my practice. I am a 36 year old female, petite in size. I am only 5'1" tall and 98 pounds. I typically dress in jeans with either a t-shirt or sweater (depending on the weather). I am the biological mom of one preschool boy and the step mom to two older boys, one teenager and one adult. I feel it is appropriate to share this about myself due to the population I work with. I feel it is helpful for children and adolsecents to have a mental image of me and understand that I will not be intimidating in size. I find that most children are comfortable with me and that most teenagers can relate with me. My practice is set up in a style that is just as relaxing. The office space is set like a family room, with one small couch and two big, comfy chairs. There are many stuffed animals in the room, games and toys. I offer art supplies to work with during a session that help facilitate a calm environment and a relaxed attiude about being in a session. All "office items" (desk, computer, fax) are spaced away from the area of therapy.

My focus is to allow each client a safe container to enter into that they feel they can express themselves, free of judgement and free of punishment. I express to each of my clients, and families, that the client should not be grounded or lose a social privlege due to the sharing of information with me.

My goal as a clinican is to maintain a professional standard of practice without the client feeling analyzed.
