Overview
Dr. Trakhtman earned a doctorate in clinical psychology at the Argosy University Illinois School of Professional Psychology, with a special emphasis in Health Psychology. Her clinical training has been particularly strong in the areas of trauma, stress, chronic pain, and serious illness--at the VA North Chicago, Cook County Hospital, and World Relief Chicago. She was recently elected to the Board of Directors of the Cancer Care Foundation, where she will be able to support her interest in oncology treatment and care.
In addition, Dr. Trakhtman has chosen to further her efforts in the sensitive area of trauma care—assessing and treating the pain and disruption that might result from abuse, divorce, loss, violence, or other psychologically-overwhelming experiences. To help her clients, she became certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), believed to be one of the most effective treatments available for Posttraumatic Stress Disorder.
Dr. Trakhtman's training and experience has prepared her to provide psychological assessment and psychotherapy for individuals, couples, families, and groups. She is particularly well-suited to working with individuals who live with serious illness, chronic pain, or high stress of any kind, and the depression, anxiety, and relationship tensions that often accompany these conditions.

Personal Statement
Life can be very difficult at times, and I see my role as helping you adjust to, and heal from, whatever you may be facing.
Essentially, I take a collaborative approach, including you and your family in planning and assessing treatment options. My clinical work builds upon the strengths of cognitive-behavioral psychotherapy, proven to be effective for improving depression and anxiety. I also teach mind-body techniques such as mindfulness meditation and relaxation to help you make the best use of all your resources--emotional, physical, spiritual, and relational.
I believe strongly in considering each person's unique strengths and experiences, and paying attention to how culture affects one's identity and adjustment. I am fluent in both English and Russian, and thus available to conduct psychotherapy in either language.
I look forward to hearing from you.
